Maine Unveils New Design for State ID Cards

In a move aimed at increasing security and modernizing its identification system, the state of Maine has unveiled a new design for its state ID cards. The updated cards will feature enhanced security features and a sleek, modern look that reflects Maine’s commitment to innovation and safety.

The new Maine ID cards will include a number of advanced security features, such as holographic images, UV printing, and microprinting. These features will make it more difficult for counterfeiters to create fake IDs and will help prevent identity theft and fraud. In addition, the cards will now be made of a more durable material that is less prone to wear and tear, ensuring that they remain valid and legible for longer periods of time.

“We are excited to unveil our new ID card design, which represents a significant step forward in terms of security and functionality,” said Maine Secretary of State, Matt Dunlap. “These updated cards will not only provide better protection against fraud and identity theft but will also make it easier for residents to access important services and facilities that require ID verification.”

The new Maine ID cards will also feature a modern, user-friendly design that is easy to read and understand. The front of the card will display the cardholder’s photo, name, date of birth, and signature, while the back will include important information such as the card’s expiration date and any restrictions or endorsements. Additionally, the cards will now include a scannable QR code that can be used to quickly verify the cardholder’s identity and access additional information.

One of the most notable changes to the new Maine ID cards is the addition of a Real ID compliant option. Starting on October 1, 2021, residents will need a Real ID compliant card to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities that require ID verification. The Real ID compliant Maine ID cards will feature a star in the upper right-hand corner, indicating that the card meets the federal standards for identification.

To obtain a new Maine ID card, residents can visit their local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office and present the required documents, such as proof of identity, residency, and Social Security number. The cost of a standard Maine ID card is $5 for residents under 65 and $2 for residents 65 and older. The cost of a Real ID compliant card is $35, in line with federal requirements.

Overall, the new Maine ID cards represent a significant upgrade to the state’s identification system, providing residents with enhanced security and functionality. With their advanced security features, modern design, and Real ID compliance, these cards will help protect residents’ identities and make it easier for them to access important services and facilities. Residents are encouraged to obtain their new Maine ID cards before the October 1, 2021 deadline to ensure compliance with federal regulations and avoid any disruptions to their travel plans.
